Tom Hiddleston once issued an apology to Queen Camilla after discovering she was a devoted fan of The Night Manager.

The moment took place back in 2016, when the actor and then-Duchess of Cornwall crossed paths at the BBC Radio 2 headquarters.

Camilla spotted the actor and beamed: “Hello, Night Manager, how are you?”

She was referencing The Night Manager, the gripping BBC spy drama in which Hiddleston stars. The show had recently wrapped its first season after just six episodes, and the queen didn’t hesitate to express her disappointment.

“Sunday nights just aren’t the same without you,” Camilla told him.

Hiddleston replied with a smile: “I apologise unreservedly.”

Their exchange didn’t stop there. Camilla, echoing the sentiment of fans everywhere, asked whether The Night Manager would return.

“But you might come back again?” she asked.

“Well, you never know,” Hiddleston said. “We’ll have to ask John le Carré.”

The meeting took an even warmer turn when Hiddleston affectionately placed an arm around Camilla for a photo, a move that sparked whispers about royal protocol.

But Clarence House quickly shut down any fuss. At the time, they told PEOPLE that it was merely a “warm moment” between two people who “got on very well and had a very nice chat together”.

“I think she quite enjoyed it!” a spokesperson added.

Camilla certainly seemed to, joking as she walked away: “I’m sure I’m the envy of all the ladies.”

Queen Camilla’s favourite TV shows

Camilla has long been known for her love of good television, and The Night Manager is no exception.

“It was brilliant. Everybody sat gripped,” she gushed to Hiddleston.

Luckily for Camilla, the hit series finally returned for a second season earlier this month, a decade after its debut.

She also has another show to look forward to: Rivals, based on Jilly Cooper’s beloved novel. Production on the second season is underway, and Camilla even visited the set in the Cotswolds late last year.

After their 2016 meeting, Hiddleston praised the royal.

“It was a pleasure to meet her,” he gushed, as reported by HELLO!. “I have never met [her] before, but she seems lovely.”

He also noted previous encounters with other senior royals, adding: “I’ve met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (now the Prince and Princess of Wales). They were kind enough to come to the premiere of War Horse, and they were great.”

Hiddleston and Camilla reunited again in 2024, this time in Buckingham Palace’s ballroom for the revival of the BBC’s 500 Words competition.

The children’s writing contest was originally launched in 2011.

Camilla was in high spirits at the event, where she mingled with celebrity guests including comedian Sir Lenny Henry, Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, and Hiddleston.
