Princess Kate's 'flirty' move reminded observers that she is no 'royal doormat'
The princess turned heads with her stunning appearance alongside Prince William
Princess Kate and Prince William are know for representing the crown and fulfilling their royal duties in the public eye.
And on one occasion, Princess Kate reminded observers that they aren’t just working royals with a job to do.
Princess Kate’s flirtatious behaviour with Prince William
The couple looked wonderful as they stepped out to the BAFTAs on February 19, 2023. Princess Kate looked ethereal in a long white gown, whilst Prince William looked dapper in a black velvet tux.
The duo were all smiles as they walked down the red carpet. But it wasn’t their glamour that caught attention.
One subtle move made by the Princess of Wales reminded onlookers that she and Wills aren’t just the future king and queen – they are also a happy couple.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, body language expert Judi James analysed Princess Kate’s appearance. She noted a sweet “love tap” Princess Kate gave William.
Judi James pointed out that this was followed by “chuckling” and an “equally flirty whisper in her husband’s ear” as they arrived at the event.

The Prince and Princess of Wales’s flirty PDA
In doing so, Judi James explained that Kate showed the world that William is just a “normal guy,” and someone who is “secretly cute rather than regally pompous or formal”.
It also signalled that Princess Kate isn’t just playing by royal rules. In fact, the moment humanised the couple an gave a brief look at their chemistry.
“As a soft power gesture, it should also remind us that Kate is no royal doormat,” Judi James stated. She continued: “Kate first appears to offer her hand to her husband for a hand clasp and he appears to turn the offer down. Kate’s gloved hand would have been left hanging in a truncated gesture. But she instantly re-directs it, giving her husband not just a love tap but also what looks like a playful reprimand for the refusal.”
She went on to observe that the move brought out a “bashful facial expression,” in William, as well as a “sheepish, smitten grin”.
Judi also noted that the couple exhibited “mutual, prolonged eye-gazing” on the BAFTA red carpet, which “illustrates a sense of flirtation”.

Princess Kate’s subtle message with romantic moment
The Prince and Princess of Wales are often reserved in public, but this subtle display of affection showed their playful side.
“Kate was either being spontaneous in the moment or she might have been cheekily seeing if her husband would break a royal ‘rule’ for the night,” Judi James said.
Whatever intention she had, Princess Kate proved she won’t ever be considered a “royal doormat”.
More recently, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a romantic, PDA moment.
The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of PDA came about as they stepped out to the Royal Variety Performance in November.
Speaking to HELLO!, royal reporter Alex Hurtado noted: “The Prince and Princess of Wales were so in sync as they stepped out on the red carpet, both wearing velvet. William was so supportive of his wife and sweetly put his hand on her back as they walked in.”
