Sarah Ferguson once addressed remarrying her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

The former couple were married from 1986 to 1996. However, they had separated in 1992. They share two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35.

Despite their divorce, Sarah and Andrew, who are currently under intense scrutiny over their association with Jeffrey Epstein, have remained close. The former Duchess of York, 66, even once described her and Andrew, 65, as the “happiest divorced couple in the world”.

During one interview, she even opened up about whether they’d ever rekindle their romance.

Sarah Ferguson on remarrying Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

After their divorce, Sarah and Andrew remained on good terms. In 2008, Sarah even reportedly moved into Andrew’s Windsor home, Royal Lodge.

Recently, amid scrutiny over their ties to late convicted sex offender Epstein, they have both vacated the 30-room property.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in 2018, Sarah opened up about her relationship with Andrew.

She said at the time: “We’re the happiest divorced couple in the world. We’re divorced to each other, not from each other. July 23, 1986 was the happiest day of my life. Andrew is the best man I know. What he does for Britain is incredible; no one knows how hard he works for his country.”

She added: “My duty is to him. I am so proud of him. I stand by him and always will. The way we are is our fairy tale. Although we are not a couple, we really believe in each other. The Yorks are a united family. We’ve shown it. You saw it at the wedding.”

‘We enjoy each other’s company’

Sarah said she and Andrew “stand up for each other” and “fight for each other”.

At the time, she also revealed they “sit round the table and have afternoon tea together”.

When asked if she and Andrew would ever remarry, Sarah replied: “So many people have asked me that, but we’re so happy with the way we are right now. We enjoy each other’s company; we allow each other to blossom. I know it sounds like a fairy tale but that’s the way we are.”

The former couple have made headlines repeatedly following the recent release of more than three million files relating to Epstein and his crimes.

The US Department of Justice released the files on January 30.

Within these files, images appeared to show Andrew kneeling on all fours over an unidentified female lying on the ground. No context has been supplied for the images. It’s also unclear when and where they were taken.

For years, Andrew has also faced allegations of sexual assault by the late Virginia Giuffre. She alleged that she was made to have sex with the former prince on three separate occasions when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

Andrew has always vehemently denied the allegations.

Following the recent release of more Epstein files in January, a second woman came forward with allegations against Andrew.

The woman alleged she was sent to the UK by Epstein for a sexual encounter with Andrew at Royal Lodge in 2010. The woman is not British and was in her 20s at the time.

Royal Insider contacted representatives for Andrew for comment. He hasn’t addressed the allegations.

Sarah Ferguson and Epstein

Last year, several charities dropped Ferguson after emails emerged appearing to show her association with Epstein.

In one 2011 email, Ferguson reportedly referred to Epstein as a “supreme friend”. In September last year, her spokesperson insisted the email was sent under duress.

Meanwhile, last month, more emails appeared in the newly released Epstein files. They seemingly revealed more details about Ferguson’s ties to Epstein.

In alleged emails to Epstein, Ferguson appeared to refer to the disgraced financier as a “legend” and like a “brother” to her.

Allegedly, following Epstein’s prison release following his conviction for soliciting sex from a minor in 2009, Ferguson reportedly visited him in Miami. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were allegedly also in attendance. The sisters were 20 and 19 at the time.

It has not been confirmed whether the emails pertained to or were from Ferguson and the true context has not been revealed.

Being named or pictured among the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.

Royal Insider has contacted representatives for Ferguson and Andrew for comment on the files.
