Prince William was reportedly put “in his place” after urging his father, King Charles, and his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, to banish Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the royal fold.

Andrew, 65, has been embroiled in scandal for years now, with his links to the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein the source of much controversy.

Prince William ‘put in his place’ by King Charles and Queen Elizabeth II over Andrew

A new book claims that William, 43, has been keen to get his uncle, Andrew, as far away from royal life as possible since 2019.

November 2019 saw Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview take place. The former Duke of York was grilled over his association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

He was also questioned about Virginia Giuffre. Ms Giuffre alleged that she was made to have sex with Andrew on three separate occasions when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

Andrew has always vehemently denied the allegations. The former prince claimed in his Newsnight interview that he had no recollection of meeting her.

Andrew has always vehemently denied any allegations of wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.

The Newsnight interview was regarded as something of a disaster for Andrew. So much so, that William allegedly wanted him banished before the “rot set in”.

According to a new book, the Prince of Wales reportedly saw Andrew as a “threat” that could impact the royal family’s chances of survival.

Monarchy in ‘fire fight’ after Andrew’s Newsnight interview

The claims are being made in a new book about the Prince and Princess of Wales. It’s been written by The Mirror’s royal editor, Russell Myers.

In an extract from the book, serialised in the Mirror, a palace source is quoted in the book as saying: “The Prince of Wales was adamant the whole episode would never go away and, despite how others may have felt, there was absolutely no upside in Andrew being protected.”

Myers claims that William urged Charles and Queen Elizabeth II to take action following Andrew’s Newsnight interview.

William’s urging reportedly sparked a furious reaction from his father and the prince was “put in his place”.

The book also claims that William realised how the monarchy was “engaged in a full-scale fire fight” and he feared that the Andrew scandal could impact the survival of the royal family.

Prince William’s ‘view’ on uncle Andrew

“His [William’s] view was crystal clear: Andrew shouldn’t be anywhere near the family under any circumstances, not by association, not at family functions, anywhere. Every single time there was a new revelation, which no one knew when it was coming or what the next one would be, it was a stain on all of the family,” the source added, according to the book.

The insider said that when you understand how the here and now affects William’s future as king, it’s “easy” to put yourself in his shoes.

“He never much liked his uncle and wanted him out of the picture immediately before the rot further set in. William’s view was that he [Andrew] got himself into the whole mess, so he should be left to his own devices to sort it out away from the family,” the source claimed.

Allegations against Andrew

Fast forward six years and William seems to have got his wish. Andrew had his royal titles removed. He has also left his Windsor home, Royal Lodge, as more details about his links with Epstein have been released.

In January, the US department of Justice released more than three million files relating to Epstein and his crimes.

Within these files, images appeared to show Andrew kneeling on all fours over an unidentified woman lying on the ground. However, the files didn’t supply context to the images.

Royal Insider contacted representatives for Andrew for comment on the files.

Andrew has always vehemently denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. Being named or pictured among the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.

William and Kate’s statement on Andrew

William and Princess Kate addressed the allegations in a statement. A spokesperson for the couple said: “I can confirm the Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations.

“Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.”

Royal Insider has contacted Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace for comment.
