A police investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is reportedly looking into an allegation of misconduct at Royal Ascot.

In February, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Hours after his arrest, he was released under investigation.

It came after he was accused of sharing confidential information with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time as UK’s trade envoy.

According to the Sunday Times, detectives at Thames Valley police are understood to be conducting a broader investigation into Andrew over the alleged offence of misconduct in public office.

This reportedly includes the latest allegation that he behaved inappropriately towards a woman at Royal Ascot.

The Times reports that the alleged incident happened at the racing event in Berkshire in 2002.

His mother Queen Elizabeth II also attended the event that year, which was the year of her golden jubilee.

It is unclear whether the claim about Andrew’s alleged behaviour at Ascot was reported to police at the time or more recently.

The alleged misconduct at Ascot being examined reportedly took place between June 18 and 22 in 2002.

When asked about the allegations, a spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police said: “We cannot go into specifics of our ongoing investigation, but we are following all reasonable lines of inquiry.”

The Times also revealed that investigators are now working their way through a list of key witnesses to gather evidence about Andrew’s stint as trade envoy. These include former cabinet ministers, royal officials and senior civil servants.

Why was Andrew arrested?

Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Police also carried out searches at his former homes in Windsor and Norfolk.

The arrest came just weeks after the US Department of Justice’s release of millions of files relating to Epstein and his crimes.

Within these files, emails allegedly showed Andrew appearing to share confidential and sensitive information with Epstein in 2010 during his role as UK’s trade envoy.

Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.

Since then, Andrew has kept a low profile as police continue their investigation.

King Charles’ statement on Andrew arrest

Following Andrew’s arrest, his brother King Charles issued a statement. It read: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.
