King Charles may be “torn” over the alleged deal he made with his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

For years, Andrew, 66, has been under intense scrutiny over his past association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Last October, the king, 77, initiated a formal process to remove Andrew’s royal titles and honours as scrutiny was mounting against the former prince and the royal family. He was also ordered to leave his Royal Lodge home.

He now lives on the king’s Sandringham Estate and has slowly been exiled from the royal family. However, Andrew’s daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have remained firmly in the royal fold so far.

King Charles’ ‘agreement’ with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor over Beatrice and Eugenie

According to royal author Andrew Lownie, the king may have struck up a deal with Andrew when he left Royal Lodge.

Speaking to the Mirror, Lownie said: “He might be under pressure from Andrew because I think a deal was done to get him out of Royal Lodge that said, ‘We’ll take care of your daughters.’ So he would be kind of torn and can’t go back on that deal.”

Lownie also discussed Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who has been under scrutiny over her past links to Epstein too.

Both Andrew and Sarah were seemingly named in the Epstein files released at the start of the year. They have since been lying low as scrutiny mounts and they face calls to be questioned over Epstein.

There have been suggestions in recent months that Sarah could end up doing a tell-all interview about the scandal.

According to Lownie, when it comes to Sarah’s future, she may be negotiating over whether or not she has a continued place in the royal fold or will be left out in the cold.

‘Can she get a nice pension from them?’

Despite divorcing Andrew in 1996, Sarah has remained close with the royal family. Over the years, she has been seen alongside the royal family at events.

Most recently, she attended the Duchess of Kent’s funeral last September alongside Andrew and senior royals.

He would be kind of torn and can’t go back on that deal.

Lownie told the Mirror: “That may be what Fergie’s negotiating at the moment. Can she get a nice pension from them and not have to do an Oprah interview. I think it’s a very schizophrenic relationship at the moment with the royals and Beatrice and Eugenie. One minute they’re very publicly being told they’re not going to be invited to Ascot, then they are going.

“You get the sense of distancing and I think there’s possibly two schools of thought here. There’s Camilla, William and Kate, who see the reputational damage and want to keep them at arm’s length, and then there’s Charles who is a bit sentimental and feels obligated to be protective.”
