Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir became the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time upon its release on January 10, 2023. Beating the likes of Barack and Michelle Obama’s releases, the book sold more than 1.43 million copies in all formats in the US, UK, and Canada, including pre-orders.
It came just over one month after the royals released their Netflix series, documenting their high-profile romance and the intense public scrutiny that followed.
The next release from the couple may be Meghan Markle‘s memoir given the success of Spare, reports royal expert Tom Bower.
Meghan Markle writing ‘huge money-spinner’ memoir
British author Tom Bower revealed to Dan Wootten on GB News Wednesday that Markle, 42, is “currently writing her memoirs and will publish all in a tell-all book.”
The project will reportedly document details of her life so far, similar to Spare. Harry’s memoir was split into five eras of his life, from his childhood and the profound impact of Princess Diana’s death, to his exit as a senior member of the royal family.
With Meghan’s release, expect tales from her youth raised by a single mom; her glittering career as an actress on Suits; and details on her first marriage to film producer Trevor Engelson.
Bower, the writer behind Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors added: “My information is that she is writing her memoirs and it will be a huge money-spinner.”
The memoir would be the Duchess’ third publishing. In 2021, she released a children’s picture book titled The Bench that reportedly earned her an advance of up to $618K. It landed on the New York Times bestsellers list but the total sales are unclear.
Markle also collaborated on a 2018 cookbook with women who were devastated by the tragic Grenfell Tower Fires.
Rumors say Prince Harry received $20 million advance for Spare
Exact figures for the Duke’s book deal are unclear but The New York Times reports that Spare was sold for a rumored sum of $20 million as part of a multi-book deal.
The tell-all’s record-shattering figures are hardly surprising given the high-profile interviews in the lead-up to the January release, including his 60 Minutes interview, during which Prince Harry alleged he “wasn’t invited” to see Queen Elizabeth II during her final moments.
Spare was also accidentally sold in Spanish bookstores five days early, leading to global outlets revealing shocking extracts, including Harry’s alleged physical altercation with Prince William that left him “scrapes and bruises,” and a broken necklace.
