Meghan Markle's bath salts recipe from Netflix show sparks warning from expert
Meghan featured a series of DIY recipes in her new Netflix show
Since the launch of With Love, Meghan earlier this month, Meghan Markle has endured a slew of backlash – even regarding her DIY bath salts creation.
It seems the duchess has left some experts displeased over one of her skincare crafts that featured on her new Netflix show, with some even urging royal fans: “Do not try this at home!”

Skincare expert warns against trying Meghan Markle’s bath salts recipe
Skincare experts have flagged the potential harm Meghan Markle’s homemade bath salts recipe could cause.
Chatting to Royal Insider about the potential risks of following Meghan’s DIY bath salts recipe, skincare expert Dr Ed Robinson explained why it is best to avoid cooking up a similar concoction at home.
Dr Ed is a cosmetic aesthetics doctor with clinics in Hale, Cheshire and London’s Harley Street. He is an associate member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine and has seven years of medical experience.
As an expert in the field, Dr Ed has warned against following Meghan’s lead.
In Meghan Markle’s With Love, Meghan, during the first episode, we see the duchess making a large jar of bath salts.
She could be seen filling a jar haphazardly with Epsom salt and Himalayan salt before adding an undisclosed amount of arnica oil, and lavender oil – seemingly dropping the essential oils in without measuring.

Meghan’s haphazard bath salts recipe
Meghan seemed to add three drops of lavender oil and two full pipettes of arnica oil straight into her bath salt mix without mentioning any specifics – thus, sparking concern.
I don’t really suggest that people follow the skin care regimes of influencers.
Dr Ed Robinson detailed: “There’s not really any medical backing behind using essential oils or carrier oils in order to improve your skin.
“My advice in this case would be that I don’t really suggest that people follow the skin care regimes of influencers or people with the kind of authority that Meghan Markle has without at least doing a patch test on your skin first, to see if you have any reaction or consulting a skin specialist or doctors first.”
He also pointed out that these recipes could lead to some harmful side effects.
Dr Ed explained: “Certainly, the mixture that she created has a very high concentrate of essential oils and salts like Epsom and Himalayan salt and if they’re not diluted adequately, they can cause quite a lot of damage to the skin.

“They can damage your skin barrier, they can cause both allergic and non-allergic sensitivity reactions, to the extent where in some cases it can cause effectively a chemical burn style reaction to someone skin which can be quite difficult to treat sometimes.”
Dr Ed recommends: “My advice is to always consult with an expert before using anything for you skin you see online, or at least a patch test first to make sure that it’s not going to cause some kind of reaction because these influencer skin regimes can do much more harm than good.”
Later on in the series, the Duchess of Sussex is joined by close friend and founder of luxury skincare brand Tatcha, Vicky Tsai.
It is here that the two friends have a go at whipping up their own facial exfoliant made with items you might find in your kitchen like rice and matcha powder.

However, Dr Ed has pointed out that this might not be worth the risk.
Nobody should ever make their own skincare.
He said: “Nobody should ever make their own skincare. Skin care products (and I specifically mean medical-grade skincare) undergo rigorous research and development processes with trials to assess their efficacy and safety.
“Homemade skin care regimes do not and can do more harm than good. They certainly won’t deliver meaningful, consistent results in terms of treating skin disease or the ageing process.”
