Piers Morgan was consumed over Kate Middleton‘s absence last year, much like millions of fans and news outlets around the world.

The Princess of Wales was out of action from her royal duties for a number of months, but it didn’t stop the cruel conspiracy theories from erupting over her whereabouts.

Piers added fuel to the fire ahead of the princess announcing she had been diagnosed with cancer in March 2024. We take a look back at the rumours he discussed on his TV show and how his comments backfired with fans.

Piers Morgan on Kate Middleton’s absence

The 59-year-old took to his show Uncensored on March 14, where he claimed he had heard “alarming things” about the mother of three from his ‘contacts’.

Although the outspoken presenter did not disclose where he heard this information, or what the alarming things were, his place in the TV industry would have convinced fans.

His comments came after Kate was under fire for releasing a photo via Kensington Palace that was Photoshopped. Kate had shared a picture with her three children, Prince George, Louis and Princess Charlotte, to mark Mother’s Day days earlier. However, speculation it had been manipulated caused a media frenzy that showed no signs of slowing down.

While Piers said she “could be fine and doing well” he later said “the palace could be hiding something”.

He added on air: “I’ve been told some stuff that, if even half of it is true, it’s pretty alarming what is happening. I don’t know what to believe, nor do any of us – we’re not there.”

Piers also appeared on TMZ’s Where is Kate Middleton? Special where he said he wasn’t ‘convinced’ the photo was taken a week before it was shared online via Kensington Palace.

TV slams ‘shameless hypocrites’

After Kate revealed her diagnosis the former Good Morning Britain host unleashed a rant on X (Twitter) hours later.

Responding to Kate’s brave statement, millions of people sent well wishes to the royal. However, Piers Morgan was upset over comments asking for privacy for Kate Middleton after speculating on her health.

He wrote: “People on here shrieking ‘LEAVE KATE ALONE!’ when they have spent the past few weeks spewing insane conspiracy theories about her is beyond parody.

“Shut up, you shameless hypocrites.”

Although fans were quick to point out similarities in Piers’ statement, as one called for the star to “take your own advice”.

He also took aim at how the royal family addressed the speculation online: “But the conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton’s secret health crisis and disappearance from public life, made worse by the manipulated family photo she posted yesterday, when added to the unsettling confusion over what cancer King Charles is suffering from and how serious his condition is, have shown that the old palace way of handling the media has become increasingly obsolete and unworkable,” he wrote in his New York Post column.
