The four royal cousins, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Prince William and Prince Harry were once known to be close, but even in previous years, some circumstances were said to have pulled them apart.

In recent years, the four have said to be divided, especially due to Harry and William’s long-standing feud and now, renewed scrutiny on Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Several years ago, there was also said to be friction.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were ‘banned’ from speaking to William and Harry

Sarah Ferguson, mother to Beatrice and Eugenie, and Princess Diana, William and Harry’s mother, were known to be a close duo back in the day.

But it seems their differences ended up coming between Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s bond with Prince William and Prince Harry.

In fact, Beatrice and Eugenie were said to allegedly have been barred from contact with their cousins following a “falling out” between Fergie and Diana.

Princess Diana is said to have declared them “persona non grata” after a disagreement with Sarah Ferguson.

Royal biographer described Beatrice and Eugenie as Wills and Harry’s “favourite” cousins in her 2022 book, The Palace Papers.

Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana’s ‘fall out’

Fergie and Diana are believed to have fallen out after Diana suggested “she had developed verrucae after borrowing her shoes”.

As per The Times, at the time, the two sisters were said to have recognised that family life isn’t always harmonious.

The publication reported: “On top of their parents’ divorce, they were banned from seeing their cousins William and Harry after Princess Diana fell out with Fergie over a verruca. (Fergie claimed she’d got one from borrowing Diana’s shoes.)”

This clash, as per WomanandHome, was said to be part of Diana’s “pattern of cutting out people”.

Tina Brown claims Diana maintained this pattern which “continued throughout their childhood”.

Brown also alleges that Diana “always needed to be first in her boys’ hearts” and pointed out a “destructive side to her mothering”.

Thus, explaining why things may have been tense between Beatrice, Eugenie, William and Harry, for a time.

Tension within the royal family

Meanwhile, this story emerges again following focus on a very tense encounter between Prince Harry and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, which occurred in 2023.

This situation also draws attention to the quiet but prominent discontent that has slowly bubbled within The Firm.

This ordeal saw the uncle and nephew endure a tense moment where the bumped into each other at the king’s coronation, shortly after Andrew had snubbed the chance to live at Harry’s former home.

Renewed scrutiny on Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have also seen Beatrice and Eugenie dragged into the ongoing saga.

Royal observers have speculated over their roles within the royal fold and whether they will continue to appear at royal events.

Rumours have also spiralled claiming that the two York sisters won’t be welcome at Royal Ascot this year.
