Prince Harry is said to be determined to ensure his children, Archie and Lilibet, grow up far removed from the pressures and instability he experienced during his years in the royal spotlight.

Living in California with Meghan Markle, the Duke of Sussex is reportedly committed to creating a private and supportive family life for Prince Archie, who turned seven on May 6, and Princess Lilibet, four.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond previously told OK! that Harry is intent on providing his children with what she described as a “perfect upbringing wrapped up in a bubble of love”, away from intense public scrutiny.

Why Prince Harry wants to give Archie and Lilibet ‘perfect childhood’

“I think he finds the security and anchor in his little family that was sadly missing in his own broken childhood home,” Bond said, referring to the separation and eventual divorce of then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Princes William and Harry were 10 and eight when their parents separated in 1992. Their mother Diana died in a car crash in Paris five years later.

Bond suggested those experiences have shaped Harry’s approach to fatherhood. She described him as deeply involved in family life.

“I think he is relishing his role as a parent and playing the fullest part he can in the lives of his two tots,” she said. “He’s lucky enough to be able to share most of their lives. So I’m sure Harry is a devoted dad and no stranger to nappy changing or school runs.”

‘Harry and Meghan will have some delicate manoeuvring to negotiate’

However, Bond also suggested the continuing tensions between the Sussexes and the wider royal family could become more difficult to explain as Archie and Lilibet grow older.

She said that at the moment, Archie and Lilibet “don’t know any difference”. However, as they grow up, Harry and Meghan will have “some delicate manoeuvring to negotiate to explain the situation”.

She added that Meghan may ultimately “bear the brunt of the responsibility” in helping guide those conversations.

Bond added that both Harry and Meghan are likely focused on ensuring their children understand their family background without feeling burdened by ongoing disputes.

“I’m sure that, like Harry, she wants the very best for their children… and that will include an understanding of their background,” she said. “I just hope that by the time Archie and Lili grow up, things will be calmer and the family more united, even if they continue to live thousands of miles apart. This is not the children’s fault or responsibility. So let’s hope the adults can make it a better world for the next generation of royals.”
