Meghan Markle has marked Prince Archie’s seventh birthday with a personal Instagram tribute, sharing rare family photos and reflecting the quieter life she and Prince Harry have built in California.

The Duchess of Sussex posted the message on May 6 alongside two images of Archie, the couple’s eldest child, who was born in May 2019.

Meghan and Harry later welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.

One image shows Prince Harry holding Archie as a newborn while the infant sleeps against his chest wrapped in a blanket.

A second photograph, taken more recently, captures Archie and Lilibet walking together along a beach near the family’s Montecito home. Archie carries a walking stick while both children’s red hair, inherited from their father, is visible in the sunlight.

Fans loved seeing Archie and Lilibet, with some gushing over the little boy’s hair. One person said on X: “His hair is so red omg… deep ginger! Happy bday Archie.”

Another wrote: “Such beautiful photos… Archie is going to be one protective big brother.”

A third added: “They grow up so fast.”

Meghan and Harry’s family life in California

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have settled in Montecito, California. Here, they have focused on raising their children away from public scrutiny while creating what Meghan has described as a sense of normal family life.

“Once you know us, I think you want us to have the same normalcy as parents and for our children as they do,” Meghan previously told PEOPLE as she reflected on family life in California.

That routine, she said, includes simple outings with Archie.

“Archie and I like to go and have lunch, share a burger and a Caesar salad, and have an ice cream sundae with two cherries on top,” Meghan said.

Although the Sussexes have generally kept Archie and Lilibet out of the public eye, Meghan has shared occasional glimpses of their family life since returning to Instagram in 2025 through both her personal account and her As ever brand page.

‘The ginger gene is a strong one!’

Prince Harry has previously spoken about his children inheriting his red hair, crediting the strong Spencer family genes passed down through his mother, Princess Diana.

“Definitely my mum. The ginger gene is a strong one!” Harry said during a 2023 appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“I actually really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Meghan] that should this go the distance and we have kids that there’s no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife’s genes, but I was wrong! Go gingers.”
