This is mortifying...

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Prince Harry have never been known to be close within the royal fold, however, this doesn’t make one very tense encounter any less awkward.

Once upon a time, the duo reportedly had a bit of a run-in, following an awkward disagreement.

According to reports, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor turned down the chance to move into Frogmore Cottage, where Prince Harry once lived with Meghan Markle.

As detailed in Journalist Tom Bower’s new book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit And The Fight For The Future Of The Royal Family, Andrew once rejected Frogmore Cottage as his new abode, long before his temporary move to Wood Farm.

Andrew is currently waiting out renovations on Marsh Farm at Sandringham. Years ago, he was said to have been offered by King Charles, the chance to move to Frogmore Cottage.

However, the then-prince refused the offer.

At the time, it was King Charles’ attempt at getting Andrew out of Royal Lodge.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor ‘rejected Prince Harry’s former home’

Tom Bower has detailed a very uncomfortable moment shortly after Andrew rejected Prince Harry’s former home.

Bower penned: “In the driving rain, Harry arrived at the abbey with Andrew. The disgraced Prince was, at the time, still refusing the King’s order to move to Frogmore from Royal Lodge, the 30-bedroom mansion he occupied with his ex-wife, Sarah [Ferguson].”

The run-in was said to have happened at King Charles’ coronation in 2023, when the uncle and nephew arrived at Westminster Abbey.

Bower explained: “Relations between the uncle and his nephew were not good. In some accounts, Andrew had scathingly dismissed Meghan as an ‘opportunist’.”

Allegedly, Andrew was offered Frogmore instead of Royal Lodge. The disgraced royal was non-working at the time and living in the lavish, 3o-room abode.

It seems that this offer of the smaller cottage, once occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle between 2019 and 2020, was a chance to move Andrew into a more low-key property.

Evidently, he refused.

Of course now we know that this may have been a more dignified option for the now-disgraced former Duke of York.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest

In recent years, Andrew has been embroiled in a slew of scandals and speculation. His friendship with the late, convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein triggered alarm bells. He has also faced allegations of sexual assault.

The late Virginia Giuffre alleged she was made to have sex with Andrew on three separate occasions when she was 17. Virginia said she had been trafficked by Epstein. Andrew has always vehemently denied the allegations.

Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and honours last year. Just last month, he was forced to leave Royal Lodge.

He was recently arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and later released under investigation.

Meanwhile, the royal is said to be awaiting the conclusion of renovations at Marsh Farm.
