King Charles has reportedly given Prince William and Princess Kate the “go-ahead” to slow down the pace of their royal duties.

The king, 76, is believed to be concerned about Kate after what has been a difficult year for her following her cancer battle.

King Charles ‘gives Prince William and Kate go-ahead to slow down’

Last year, Kate went public with her cancer diagnosis.

A year on – and now in remission – the Princess of Wales and her husband are reportedly happier than ever.

William has spoken to his father and received the go-ahead to tone down the frenetic pace.

Speaking to Closer, a source said: “William has been incredibly supportive through Kate’s cancer battle – he’s really proven himself to be a remarkable partner when the going gets tough. His big focus has been on making the most of their time and this second chance at life together. That means more romantic dinners, more long walks and more holidays.

“They’re mapping out summer plans right now, with the usual family trips to Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly, but they’re also looking to take a romantic hideaway holiday just the two of them, and even talking about going back to the Seychelles where they honeymooned.”

The source then continued, saying how the “doting husband” took up extra royal duties last year to help Kate, 43, while she was undergoing treatment.

Now, after everything that the Waleses have gone through, the king is reportedly encouraging William, 42, to take more time off to spend more time with Kate.

“William has spoken to his father and received the go-ahead to tone down the frenetic pace. Charles doesn’t want to see William burn out and he certainly doesn’t want to overload Kate when she’s still fragile. He’s told them both to take whatever time they need,” the source added.

How Prince William supported Kate in her cancer battle

William, of course, was by Kate’s side throughout her cancer battle.

When the Princess of Wales publicly announced her cancer diagnosis, William was said to be very supportive of her decision to do so.

The Prince of Wales was reportedly “extremely proud” of his wife’s “courage and strength”.

William took time off from royal duties to spend time with Kate after her diagnosis. He returned to royal engagements in April 2024. During a visit to food distribution charity, the prince told volunteers that he was “looking after” Kate.

In November 2024, during a trip to South Africa, William confessed that it had been the “worst year” of his life, due to his wife and father’s cancer diagnoses.

“It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,” he told the press.

“I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been brutal,” he then added.

On Kate’s birthday this year, William uploaded a gushing tribute to his wife on Instagram.

“To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable,” he wrote.

“George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you. W.”
