As per reports, Prince William has allegedly racked up a huge sum by renting out an abandoned prison.

Prince William has allegedly received millions of pounds of public money for the prison. Here is why…

Prince William has ‘earned a huge sum on a prison rental’

HMP Dartmoor is part of the huge property portfolio that Prince William oversees as owner and manager of the Duchy of Cornwall.

The prison was previously closed due to toxic gas levels, leaving it abandoned.

More recently, as per The Sunday Times, the Duchy of Cornwall owns the prison and has leased it to the Ministry of Justice for £1.5 million per year.

This has reportedly been going on since December 2023.

This means that Prince William may have racked up an eye-watering sum for the prison over the past 20 months. The lease has at least generated a jaw-dropping £2.5 million in income.

The premises has been unused since July 2024 after high levels of radon, a naturally occurring toxic gas that has been linked to lung cancer, were recorded in the prisoners’ accommodation, as per Hello.

Inside HMP Dartmoor

HMP Dartmoor is a category-C facility. This means it was designed for adult male prisoners who are unlikely to attempt escape but cannot be trusted in open prisons.

HMP Dartmoor is one of 42 prisons and probation sites in the UK with high radon levels.

The Duchy of Cornwall has reportedly refused to disclose how much tax William had paid on the lease income.

The Duchy of Cornwall speak out

They said in a reported statement: “The lease of HMP Dartmoor reflects long-standing arrangements governing the site and was negotiated on a standard commercial basis with both parties taking independent advice. We remain in regular contact with the Ministry of Justice, as it determines the future of the prison.

“We have been actively engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Justice since the closure to find a fair and sustainable solution to this issue as soon as possible.”

Kensington Palace has been contacted for comment.

They told us: “We have been in active and ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Justice since the closure of HMP Dartmoor, pressing for a fair and sustainable resolution as quickly as possible. We are now awaiting clarity from them on their long‑term plans for the prison so that we can move forward with certainty.”

Apparently, as stated in a police report, the prison, because windows were left open to improve ventilation, is now infested with various animals like rats, birds, bats, and insects.

Prince William has ruffled feathers lately

In recent weeks, Prince William has been slammed for his alleged disruption of a town impacted by a new project in the Duchy of Cornwall.

William’s property portfolio spans 23 counties and is made up of housing developments and castles, as well as commercial properties.

In 2027, the prince is said to be moving forward with an ambitious new project.

The prince is said to be building 620 homes in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

Evidently, local residents aren’t happy.

Andrew Cook, a retired business adviser, claimed the Duchy “didn’t communicate with us”.

“They were just completely intransigent,” when it came to their plans.

He went on to say: “It’s so frustrating, the Duchy are so difficult – there is no common sense.”
