This is so awkward...

Paloma Faith and Kate Middleton probably aren’t a duo you imagine running into each other. However, they have indeed crossed paths.

The chart-topping Only Love Can Hurt Like This singer and Brit award winner Paloma Faith recently opened up about a very awkward moment she endured with none other than the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.

Paloma Faith’s mortifying moment with Princess Kate Middleton

On the latest episode of her Mad Sad Bad podcast which featured the comedian Rosie Jones, Paloma and Rosie reminisced about when they both chatted with Princess Kate Middleton at the Royal Variety performance in 2018, shortly after Princess Kate had welcomed baby Prince Louis.

Paloma also revealed how she made a very awkward remark that left her so embarrassed, she needed Rosie to intervene and go with her ‘escape plan’.

“‘I said, ‘Didn’t you look good post-partum, Kate. How have you lost that weight so quickly?'” Paloma explained, describing that they “chatted about kids and stuff”.

After mentioning Princess Kate’s weight, Paloma desperately wanted to exit the conversation.

Paloma’s major blunder

And unfortunately for Rosie, who has ataxic cerebral palsy, Paloma used their new found friendship in a non-politically correct way.

She explained, “Then I looked at [Rosie] and thought, ‘Can we just say that, because you’re disabled, we have to go, and you need me to help you?’ Then everyone was, like, ‘Rosie said she needs Paloma to take her because of the stairs.’ [Rosie] helped me in a very non-PC way by allowing me to abuse and use her disability to get myself out of a potentially uncomfortable situation with some Royal Family members,” Paloma confessed.

Thankfully, given Rosie had joined Paloma on her podcast and Princess Kate had invited Paloma to perform at the 2024 Together at Christmas carol service, neither of her relationships have soured due to her mortifying faux pas.

Both Paloma Faith and Kate Middleton have three children. Paloma welcomed her third child, a baby boy with partner Stevie Thomas, in March 2026.

Awkward moment Kate Middleton was mistaken for William’s assistant

Princess Kate of course is the mother of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Of course, this is definitely not the only time the royals have endured an embarrassing mix up during a royal engagement.

When Prince William and Princess Kate visited Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff in 2020, Princess Kate Middleton was mistaken for William’s assistant.

The duo were re-introduced to resident Joan Drew-Smith, who they’d done virtual bingo with at an engagement earlier in the year.

During the reunion, Joan asked William: “Is that your assistant?”

Kate of course laughed it off and replied: “Well I am your assistant! I have been for a long time!”
