Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘forced’ to quit as working royals
The Duke of Sussex, 40, is in the UK this week as his legal battle over security continues.
During his court appearance yesterday (Tuesday, April 8), it was claimed that Harry and Meghan felt as though they had to quit life as working royals in 2020, as they were not being “protected” by the Firm.
In a written submission read out in court, a barrister for Harry said: “On 8 January 2020, (the duke) and his wife felt forced to step back from the role of full time official working members of the royal family as they considered they were not being protected by the institution, but they wished to continue their duties in support of the late queen as privately funded members of the royal family.”
They then added that it was ruled that “there is no basis for publicly funded security support for the duke and duchess within Great Britain”.
Is Meghan still a royal?
Despite stepping back as a working royal, Meghan is still officially a royal. She still holds the royal moniker, Duchess of Sussex, despite no longer living in the UK or doing royal work.
They considered they were not being protected by the institution.
The same goes for Prince Harry’s title and of course, he’s a royal by birth.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security fears after being forced to ‘quit’ as working royals
Since it was made public that Harry and Meghan wouldn’t receive security in the UK, they have reportedly been subject to several threats.
According to the duke’s barrister, terrorist group Al Qaeda have called for Harry “to be murdered”. It’s said that the terrorist group published a document in which it was said that the assassination of Harry would “please the Muslim community”.
In 2023, Harry and Meghan also claimed that they’d been involved in a “dangerous” car pursuit with paparazzi in New York.
Harry’s sad admission about children Lilibet and Archie
In his appeal against the court’s decision to deny him security, he has argued that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet “cannot feel at home” or “safe” in the UK unless his police protection becomes reinstated to previous levels.
Prince Archie, five, was born in the UK but has spent much of his childhood so far in the US. Princess Lilibet, meanwhile, was born in the US in 2021 and has only visited the UK once, for the late queen’s platinum jubilee, which was also her first birthday.

Prince Harry ‘ignores’ question about King Charles
Yesterday saw Harry make a rare UK appearance, thanks to his court appearance.
As he arrived at the London’s Court of Appeal yesterday morning, he briskly walked past reporters waiting outside.
One of them asked the duke: “Did you speak to your dad?”
However, Harry had no response for them as he walked on into the court.
King Charles and Camilla departed the UK for their four-day state visit to Italy just hours after Harry landed in the UK.
Can Prince Harry be removed from the line of succession?
As things stand, Harry is fifth in line to the throne. However, this could be changed by an Act of Parliament.
He could potentially be removed from his position in the line of succession if he agreed to it and an Act of Parliament was taken.
A recent example of this happening is when Edward VIII abdicated in 1936. His abdication and the crowning of his brother, George, was made via an Act of Parliament at the time.
