Princess Beatrice has opened up about her mother Sarah Ferguson’s strength and resilience during her highly publicised divorce from Prince Andrew.

The Princess of York, 36, joined her sister Princess Eugenie, 35, on the podcast Lessons From Our Mothers, hosted by Cressida Bonas – a close friend and former girlfriend of Prince Harry – and her half-sister, Isabella Branson.

The episode was an emotional and heartwarming tribute to the Duchess of York. Both Beatrice and Eugenie shared fond memories of their upbringing.

When asked about their favourite memory of Sarah Ferguson, affectionately known as Fergie, Princess Beatrice reflected on how their mother made even the most chaotic moments feel like an adventure.

“There was always an adventure to be had,” Beatrice said. “And now it’s so fun reflecting and looking back to say some of the harder times, through divorce, and through challenging moments, there was always an adventure.

“She had an ability to jump into things with two feet. That is an amazing early memory for us. This way with which she just brought that joy to moments, including running late for school.”

Beatrice also opened up about one of her earliest memories. The memory involved her mother trying to get her and Eugenie to hurry up in the mornings by promising breakfast in the car.

Prince Andrew and his wife Sarah Ferguson married in 1986 but announced their separation in 1992.

The couple cited the Duke of York’s frequent absences due to his Royal Navy duties. They also mentioned the growing pressures from life within the royal spotlight.

Sarah’s desire to work independently – a move frowned upon within the confines of traditional royal expectations – also contributed to the decision.

In a later interview, she explained that gaining financial freedom and pursuing a career were key reasons for the divorce.

That same year, public opinion turned sharply when intimate photos of Fergie with American businessman John Bryan, including a now-infamous image of him appearing to kiss her foot, were published in the press.

The media frenzy only intensified scrutiny around the couple’s strained relationship.

Their divorce was finalised in 1996. However, unlike many royal breakups, their post-divorce relationship remained warm and supportive.

Despite their divorce nearly three decades ago, Prince Andrew and his wife Sarah Ferguson have continued to live near each other at Royal Lodge in Windsor. They are also frequently seen attending royal events together.

They were last spotted together on Easter Sunday. The former couple joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at St George’s Chapel for the church service.
