Princess Diana's iconic sports day race at Prince Harry's school remains legendary to this day
What a doting mother she was!Princess Diana once took part in sports day for her son Prince Harry at his school – and it remains one of the most iconic things she ever did.
Over the years, Princess Diana had numerous moments that will be remembered forever, This includes her amazing fashion sense – and that black “revenge” dress. But one main thing she will always be loved for is the way she was a doting mum to her sons, Princes William and Harry. Despite the huge attention on their family, she appeared very normal.
When Prince Harry was a young boy, he was at his school for sports day, and it looked like Diana wouldn’t be able to compete in the parent race. But she found a way to do it.

Did Princess Diana participate in the race?
The Princess of Wales did take part in a race at Harry’s sports day in 1991, when he was six.
A video of the iconic moment has resurfaced, posted on a royal fan account on Instagram.
In the video, Diana ducked under a barrier and ran onto the pitch, smiling and waiting for the other mums to join her.
The footage then captures the race, where Diana breaks out at full speed, barefoot. And she was looking determined to win the race.
However, she didn’t appear to come out on top and actually ended in second place, despite running in a pleated mid-length skirt.

There appeared to be no hard feelings as Diana and the other school mums couldn’t stop laughing and chatting after the race.
It’s believed that Diana could have been told not to participate in the race as her outfit wasn’t running appropriate. But it seemed she didn’t want to let Harry down.
Imagine racing beside Princess Diana in your kid’s school sports day.
However, fans took to the comments of the post to share their admiration for Diana. They expressed their love for her normalcy.
One penned: “Diana’s kindness and genuine heart will live on forever.”
Another thought about what it would be like for the other mums racing with her. They commented: “Imagine racing beside Princess Diana in your kid’s school sports day.”
“She did everything to make them happy. Truly gone too soon,” a third wrote.
A royal fan penned: “This may be some of my favourite footage ever of her.”

Do William and Kate get involved in school events?
It’s believed this wasn’t the first time that Princess Diana took part in sports day. In 1989 and 1990, she participated in the mothers’ race at William and Harry’s school.
It’s clear that Diana wasn’t afraid to do something that may be unusual for a royal to make her children happy.
However, it seems she passed that down to Prince William. A source told Hello Magazine last year that William and Kate are “hands-on” with their children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. And they never miss a school event for their own kids, apparently.
The insider said: “The day after Kate’s carol service at Westminster Abbey, it was the school Christmas fair and they were all there, as they were the previous year.
“I saw them queuing up for tombola tickets like everyone else. They really act like a normal mum and dad.”
So while we may not have seen images or videos of them running in sports day, it seems Princess Diana’s influence has rubbed off on her eldest son.
