Queen Elizabeth II’s unforgettable reign has been immortalised in a multitude of ways – and not just because she has welcomed several grandchildren including Prince George, Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Zara Tindall.

Her influence lives on in other ways.

The sweet way Queen Elizabeth II is remembered by 9 of her descendants

Nine royal descendants carry Queen Elizabeth II’s name in her honour. Here is a run down of all of her relatives whose names were inspired by the late queen…

Born on August 15, in 1950, Princess Anne unsurprisingly carries her mothers name. Anne’s full name is Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise.

She is also named after Princess Alice of Battenberg, her paternal grandmother, Prince Philips’ mother.

Following this tradition, the Princess Royal named her own and only daughter, Zara, after herself and her mother.

Zara therefore carries the name Zara Anne Elizabeth Phillips. Of course, she is now known as Zara Tindall, after marrying Rugby star Mike Tindall.

Zara, who shares three children with Mike, Mia, Lena and Lucas, also followed her mother’s lead.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson also chose to name their daughter after Queen Elizabeth II.

Their eldest daughter Princess Beatrice carries the name Beatrice Elizabeth Mary.

Beatrice boasts the name of two of her grandmothers, with her great-grandmother being Mary of Teck.

This naming tradition has lived on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren

When Beatrice welcomed her first daughter Sienna in 2021, she passed on the name to her too. She named Sienna, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi.

Prince Edward also chose to follow in the footsteps of his sister an brother. His daughter, Louis, whom he shares with Duchess Sophie, was also named after Queen Elizabeth II.

Lady Louise was given names after her great-grandmother, Princess Alice, as well as Elizabeth and her maternal grandmother, Mary.

Lady Louise’s full name is Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary.

When Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, welcomed his second daughter Isla, with his first wife Autumn, he chose to keep up tradition, naming her Isla Elizabeth Phillips.

His first daughter, Savannah, does not carry Queen Elizabeth II’s name. However, she was named after her grandmother, Princess Anne, with her full name being Savannah Anne Kathleen Phillips.

Princess Charlotte was named after Queen Elizabeth II

Unsurprisingly, Prince William and Princess Kate also chose to honour Queen Elizabeth II by naming their daughter, Princess Charlotte, after her.

The princess, who is third in line to the throne and is celebrating her birthday today, was named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, when she was born eleven years ago today (May 2, 2015).

And finally and perhaps most notably, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle famously named their daughter after Queen Elizabeth II in a less traditional way.

They chose to name her Lilibet, like the sweet moniker Queen Elizabeth was given by her father, King George VI and husband, Prince Philip.

The story behind Queen Elizabeth II’s reaction to learning of Lilibet Diana’s name

Of course, Lilibet is also named after Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, with her full name being Lilibet Diana Sussex.

Reportedly, as claimed by MailOnline, Author Robert Jobson divulged in his book, The Windsor Legacy: A Royal Dynasty of Secrets, Scandal and Survival, that Queen Elizabeth was not happy with how she discovered the news about Lilibet’s name.

Jobson claims that although the late queen had reportedly approved the name, “a palace source has a different version of events“.

He alleged that a source told him that the “queen first learned of Lilibet’s name from the morning press, and was so incensed at the affront that she threw the paper to the floor, startling her staff”.

Wow, that is a lot of relatives named after the beloved Queen Elizabeth II.
