Prince Louis is celebrating his eighth birthday today and the once very mischievous prince is growing up quickly before our eyes.

For many years, the youngest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales has brought us some hilarious public moments. From his cheeky expressions on the Buckingham Palace balcony to him ignoring his older siblings’ instructions at royal events, Prince Louis has won over the nation with his adorable antics.

But now, one royal commentator has suggested there’s been a shift in Prince Louis’ public behaviour. It could be to do with his age though…

‘Reason’ for change in Prince Louis public behaviour as he marks birthday

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond discussed Prince Louis’ recent appearance at the royal family’s Easter Sunday service. She said Prince Louis was “very well behaved”.

She told the Mirror: “It was obvious at Easter when we saw the whole family at Windsor that George isn’t the only one who is getting taller. The cheeky little boy in shorts was now a very well behaved young Prince Louis in suit and tie.

“There were no mischievous antics, no tongue poking out at the cameras. In fact Louis hardly looked in the direction of the crowds. I don’t think his parents will have consciously subdued his cheeky side. But Louis is probably now more aware that he is on public parade.

“And that could be embarrassing at his age. So it was left to Charlotte to give a friendly little wave in the direction of the crowds and cameras.”

Louis to attend more engagements, royal commentator predicts

Jennie also predicted that we’ll see more of Louis at engagements now, alongside his older siblings Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10.

However, Jennie said Prince William and Princess Catherine will “continue their policy of giving their young family as normal and private and upbringing as possible in their position”.

Prince Louis’ future in the royal family

With their older brother George destined to become king one day, much discussion has focused on Charlotte and Louis’ royal futures.

Louis is probably now more aware that he is on public parade.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold told Marie Claire what he thinks the siblings could do when they’re older.

Harrold worked for King Charles from 2004 until 2011.

He said: “There will be a high demand on the children, because their workload will be increased. But the royal family may not be carrying out quite the same responsibilities by the time they are old enough.

“There may be brand endorsements or more support for organisations, with them being seen as celebrities or even taking on that influencer role.”

Happy birthday, Prince Louis!
