Princess Kate Middleton made a stylish return to royal duties on July 8, stepping out in Windsor to welcome French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron at the start of their three-day UK state visit.

While her soft blush outfit turned heads for its elegant tailoring, it was her accessories that carried tributes to two of the most influential royal women: Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth II.

Princess Kate wore a Dior jacket, her first time donning the iconic French fashion house publicly, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri.

But it was her jewellery that truly told a story.

Tobias Kormind, Managing Director and Co-Founder of 77 Diamonds, noted the emotional significance of Kate’s accessories.

“The Princess of Wales paid a thoughtful tribute to President Macron and the First Lady of France with her choice of outfit, selecting a modern interpretation of a classic Christian Dior jacket. But it was her jewellery that added emotional depth to the look,” he explained.

“She accessorised with the Collingwood pearl earrings once worn by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, and a three-strand pearl necklace from Queen Elizabeth II’s collection. The Queen was rarely seen without her pearls, and their inclusion symbolised a quiet homage to her enduring legacy.”

Kate’s outfit also included a matching pink hat by Jess Collett and delicate heels.

This marked a special occasion because it was the first time Windsor Castle had hosted a state visit since 2014. Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing renovations.

William and Kate personally greeted the Macrons at RAF Northolt before taking part in a regal carriage procession through Windsor. Macron also caused a reaction when he kissed the royal.

Kate returns to royal duties

Kate’s participation in the visit comes just days after she opened up about her ongoing recovery from cancer treatment during a visit to Colchester Hospital.

“Treatment’s done. Then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal’. But actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” she said, candidly acknowledging the emotional and physical toll.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told HELLO! that Kate is returning to her duties “sensibly, and on her own terms.”

“Her priorities have changed, and she’s listening to her body instead of being a people pleaser. She’s absolutely got to be strict with herself and say, ‘No, I can’t do this.’

She’s playing the long game and focusing on what really matters. Her health, her family, and staying well.”

It’s not yet confirmed whether Kate will attend the evening’s state banquet.

King Charles is expected to make a speech to reaffirm the close ties between the UK and France. It comes after fans grew concerned for his health after seeing Charles’ bloodshot eye.

As the French state visit continues, the Macrons are set to view items from the Royal Collection linked to France, visit Westminster Abbey, and pay private respects at Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb in St George’s Chapel.
