Princess Kate Middleton seemingly keeps to one golden rule when it comes to the cameras. This special rule was reportedly demonstrated by Queen Elizabeth II herself.

The Princess of Wales is the epitome of elegance and grace, especially when facing the lens of a camera. Apparently, the princess learnt a special rule from Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

This rule ensures she is always putting the right foot forward whilst in the spotlight…

Kate Middleton’s rule in front of cameras was taught by Prince Philip

Prince Philip, the longest-serving consort in British history, held such an esteemed position and demonstrated such duty in his role at Queen Elizabeth’s side. He often offered advice to new members of the royal fold.

Once upon a time, he had been in a similar position to Princess Diana and Princess Kate, marrying into one of the most famous families in the world, whilst being unsure of the responsibilities.

Because of this, he reportedly held significant wisdom when it came to The Firm. Especially when it came to how to act in the public eye.

Prince Philip’s ‘wisdom for royals faced with cameras’

According to royal author Gyles Brandreth in his biography, Philip: The Final Portraitthe prince shared lots of wisdom, including a key rule he taught Kate Middleton.

TV personality Gyles wrote that Philip reportedly advised Kate, who will one day become queen, to never look at the camera.

I have been on walkabout with the Duchess of Cambridge. She does not look at the camera.

He explained that the late queen never looked at the camera and instead looked at the person she was talking to.

He stated that Philip said: “If you believe the attention is for you personally, you’re going to end up in trouble.

“The attention is for your role, what you do, what you’re supporting. It isn’t for you as an individual. You are not a celebrity. You are representing the royal family. That’s all.”

Philip’s fondness for Kate Middleton

According to Brandreth, Philip worried about the impact of fame on those entering the family. Especially, if the attention went to their heads.

Despite his concerns, Philip was said to be “relieved” that his grandson, Prince William, had found a “level-headed” girl in Kate.

Gyles himself said of Kate: “I have been on walkabout with the Duchess of Cambridge. She does not look at the camera. Whenever she is interviewed, Catherine talks about the matter in hand, never about herself.”

Philip ‘guided’ Princess Diana

When Princess Diana was welcomed into the royal fold, Prince Philip was said to have guided her, too.

“When (Diana) found the restrictions of royal life difficult, it was Philip who helped her,” penned royal author Ingrid Seward in her book Prince Philip Revealed.

“Once she was married, she never sat next to her husband; she was always sat next to Philip at the endless black-tie dinners, and he took care of her. Diana found the Balmoral dinners a massive strain and the atmosphere stifling,” Seward explained.

Meghan Markle has also previously stated that Philip gave her a warm welcome when she first met the royals.
