Prince William is preparing for a high-profile royal appearance this week alongside a familiar face from abroad – the Crown Prince of Jordan.

The Prince of Wales, 43, will travel to Oxfordshire on Wednesday (October 15) for a joint visit to RAF Benson with Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan.

Kensington Palace confirmed the visit, describing it as a demonstration of “their mutual respect for the Armed Forces”.

The two heirs will tour the air base, meet with trainee aircrew and service personnel, and observe aircraft operations up close.

The pair will also speak with personnel who have been deployed on missions around the world, and learn about the base’s day-to-day operations. They’ll also spend time inside one of the squadron hangars.

It will be a meaningful trip for both of the princes. Prince William was a search-and-rescue pilot in 2010 until 2013. During this stint, William undertook 156 search and rescue operations, undertook a routine operational deployment to the Falkland Islands, and qualified as an operational Captain.

Crown Prince Hussein, meanwhile, completed his pilot training with the Royal Jordanian Air Force in 2019 and now holds the rank of Major in the Jordanian Armed Forces. His father, King Abdullah II, trained at the UK’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Prince William’s personal interview about royal life

Meanwhile, in recent months, Prince William has continued to focus on his public duties and his vision for a modern monarchy.

During a rare interview with actor Eugene Levy on Apple TV +’s The Reluctant Traveler, he briefly referenced the childhood he shared with Prince Harry.

“I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I had to grow up in,” William said. “And I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”

The episode touched on his personal challenges, including his wife Kate’s cancer diagnosis, and his commitment to raising their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, away from the harsh scrutiny he and Harry once endured.

“I want to question things more,” William told Levy about one day being king. “I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do.”

Although his comments about Harry were brief, royal experts believe they carry weight. It comes amid their strained relationship. It’s believed that William and Harry haven’t spoken properly in years.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror: “The mention of Harry is indeed fleeting. I think it would be wrong to overanalyse it. But it does show that William hasn’t completely blocked his brother from his thoughts.”
