Kate Middleton’s role within the monarchy has been highlighted following the stripping of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s titles.

Andrew officially lost his prince title and other royal honours last week. It came amid scrutiny surrounding his association with Jeffrey Epstein.

The late Virginia Giuffre also accused Andrew of sexual assault. Ms Giuffre alleged she was made to sleep with Andrew when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

Andrew, 65, has always vehemently denied the allegations.

Kate Middleton is the ‘power behind the throne’

In the wake of Andrew’s title strip, it has been reported that Kate was fully behind the king’s decision.

Buckingham Palace recently said that King Charles had “initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew”.

Speaking to Fox Digital, royal commentator Ian Pelham Turner said: “Kate Middleton is obviously a power behind the throne, supporting King Charles and Prince William in saving and securing the future of the royal family and her own determined destiny to become queen.

“A smiling face to the camera, a steely resolve in private, she desires to protect the destinies of her husband, Prince William, and their eldest son, Prince George, while doing her part in saving the royal brand.

“She is determined to create the right image constantly. I believe there was not much love lost between her and Andrew, who allegedly spoke shamelessly about her to William, creating an angry confrontation between uncle and nephew to a point where Andrew’s fate was sealed.”

Prince William addresses Andrew title strip

Last week, Kate’s husband, Prince William, cleverly dodged a question about Andrew while out in Brazil.

The Prince of Wales was in the South American country for The Earthshot Prize Awards, as well as the COP30 conference.

In an interview, William was asked: “Given the fact that there’s been a lot of change in your own family recently…Where do you see the change and what do you think needs to happen?”

Sidestepping the question, William replied: “I think The Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it.

“I want to surround myself with people who want to make change and do good in the world.”

“Change will come from backing them not by what I do,” he then added.

Andrew to undergo another name change?

In other Andrew-related news, he could be set to undergo another name change. It comes just days after having his titles taken off him.

Following the announcement that he will lose his prince title, it was announced that the royal will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

However, eagle-eyed royal fans noticed that there isn’t a hyphen between Mountbatten and Windsor. Other royals have the hyphen present between the two names.

Now, it’s been reported that the hyphen could be inserted into Andrew’s last two names. This would be as per the late queen’s request.

Just before Andrew’s birth in 1960, Queen Elizabeth II issued a formal notice through the Privy Council stating that her descendants who were not princes or princesses would bear the surname Mountbatten-Windsor.

According to The Times, “Andrew Mountbatten Windsor” was the version of the name agreed upon with him personally and the version he preferred. However, that may now be under review.

Mountbatten-Windsor, hyphenated, could become the standard for all future references.
