The key ways Prince William and Kate Middleton are 'preparing' Prince George for bigger role within royal family

This is how Prince George is already preparing to become king one day...

Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton are already ensuring Prince George is ready for his future. And undoubtedly, George’s future is very different to that of a typical 12-year-old.

George’s career is already mapped out for him. He is set to accede to the throne, following his father, Prince William.

And although this responsibility is a long way off, the young prince is already been set up to step into a bigger role within The Firm.

How Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton are preparing Prince George for the throne

According to royal expert and historian Marlene Koenig, who spoke to Us Weekly, George is now “undoubtedly aware of his future role”.

The prince, who is the son of heir apparent Prince William, didn’t have a “proper awareness” of his future career until the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, as per reports.

Since then, the Prince and Princess of Wales are said to have discussed the changes to come with George.

But how are the couple preparing their son for this huge shift? Especially when he is stepping into a role that isn’t exactly the typical dream many tweens have, like being a rockstar, racing car driver or an astronaut.

Prince George is already attending royal events

Although Prince George isn’t present at every royal event, he is there at some of the most important occasions. Like Christmas Day, where he accompanied his royal relatives and took centre stage greeting onlookers in Sandringham and accepting presents and well wishes.

Another example was his presence at King Charles’ coronation in 2023.

“The Coronation provided the young prince with the knowledge that he, too, would one day be crowned in a Coronation ceremony,” Koenig explained. “George may be a schoolboy who loves sports, but he is most certainly aware of his future.”

The young prince is already aware of royal protocol

With this in mind, Prince George is, of course, already aware of royal protocol.

One such protocol that he reportedly now follows is that heirs to the throne cannot travel together.

This means George cannot travel with his father on an aeroplane, reports claim.

If the Wales family follow the rule, it would mean the family take separate flights, even when they are holidaying together. This protects the future of the monarchy, in case there was a tragic accident.

King Charles and William are also not permitted to travel together, reportedly.

When Charles was the Prince of Wales, he was reportedly not allowed to travel with his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

However, it’s unclear if this historic rule has now softened amid a more modern monarchy.

Prince George follows in his father’s footsteps

Unsurprisingly, George spends a lot of time in the company of his royal relatives, especially his father. This means that he is truly learning from example, up close.

It doesn’t matter what they are doing, George is able to observe how his father conducts himself.

Whether they are attending a football match or waving to fans passing by, Prince George is able to see how the Prince of Wales acts as a senior royal.

Their dynamic is the ultimate ‘take your child to work day’.

In December, George joined his father as they visited The Passage, a homelessness charity. It mirrored William’s visit to the charity when he was 11 in 1993, alongside his mother, Princess Diana.

The future king is already getting stuck in and meeting the public

Finally, another element of Prince George’s teaching has been meeting the public.

Take Christmas Day, where George was faced with a slew of fans eager to share their well wishes with the royals.

A moment that quickly hit headlines involved George, who gave a very sweet reply to one fan wishing him a Merry Christmas.

They told George: “George, I’ve got something to say to you,” taking his hand.

The well-wisher continued: “Granny Diana would be ever so proud of you.”

A smiling George replied: “Thank you.”

Prince William was heard saying: “That’s very kind of you.”

Even last year, George joined his parents at a tea party for veterans held at Buckingham Palace, where he was said to have conducted himself very well.

A source gushed about George’s behaviour at the party, as per HELLO!: “George was the star of the room. He was engrossed in conversation with many of the veterans, who were delighted to speak to him as well.”
