Prince Philip's behaviour got a surprising reaction

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip weren’t known to be fond of public displays of affection. But there was one occasion where the duo were rather amused when they were caught getting their flirt on.

The moment Queen Elizabeth ‘screamed’ over Prince Philip flirting

According to royal author Ian Lloyd, the couple, during their 74 years of marriage, shared the same mischievous sense of humour.

In fact, Lloyd claims that behind the scenes they were rather playful.

In his book, The Queen: 70 Chapters in the Life of Queen Elizabeth II, Lloyd discussed a recount told to him by Chief Petty Officer William Evans.

According to Lloyd, there was one moment where Prince Philip pinched the queen’s bottom and ran after her.

Apparently, the stunned then-monarch could only cry out in response: “Stop it, Philip!”

Ian Lloyd penned that the queen was “screaming with laughter and shouting ‘Stop it! Philip. Stop it, stop it, stop it!’ as Philip ran after her, pinching her bottom repeatedly and growling: ‘Get up there, girl! Get up there!'”.

He went on to claim: “Philip himself inadvertently gave a clue to their intimacy when he fact-checked a manuscript by biographer Tim Heald.

“The author wrote, ‘It was generally known that at the palace the royal couple had separate bedrooms.’ In the margin the prince scrawled, ‘wrongly.'”

Prince Philip’s sense of humour and playful nature

Prince Philip was undoubtedly known for his wit and hilarious one-liners. During their marriage, which spanned over seven decades, Elizabeth and Philip were said to have argued like any couple. But they also had a lot of fun together.

King Charles also highlighted his father’s fun-loving nature, during a BBC documentary in memory of Prince Philip.

He said of his father: “He was marvellous at arranging silly games. I mean, the fun of having obviously young parents was… there were lots of chasing around and mad things.”

Queen Elizabeth’s wicked sense of humour

Although Queen Elizabeth was known to be practical and sometimes very serious, she also had a wicked sense of humour.

For example, at the G7 summit in 2021, the queen made a hilarious quip that definitely cheered up the group of bored world leaders.

She was said to have turned to Boris Johnson, who was Prime Minister at the time and said: “Are you supposed to be looking as if you’re enjoying yourself?”

Unsurprisingly, this prompted laughter from those around.

Prince Philip’s ‘frustration’ over cheating rumours

Appearing on an episode of Hello’s A Right Royal Podcast to discuss his upcoming book launch, Elizabeth II: An Intimate Portrait, TV star Gyles Brandreth discussed how difficult rumours of his infidelities were for Prince Philip.

In fact, he was said to be so frustrated by the claims, he considered legal action.

Gyles explained: “Yes, he had flirtatious friendships. He was of a generation where maybe that was more acceptable than it would be now.”

He went on to say: “I talked to a number of people quoted at length, one of them who had been a very close friend of his. And nothing happened between them. It doesn’t mean to say there wasn’t an intimate friendship, but I don’t believe he was a philanderer.”
