Kate Middleton’s healthy snack habit lives on in Princess Charlotte

Representing The Firm as a senior member of the royal family works up an appetite. For Kate Middleton, she ensures her diet and what she likes to eat in a day fuels her body and mind, and even passed on a health habit to her daughter Princess Charlotte.

The Princess of Wales is known for having a balanced and active lifestyle, and has been a fan of sports most of her life. She’s also a keen chef and enjoys cooking up hearty meals for her husband Prince William and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.

Here’s everything we know about Kate Middleton’s diet, what she eats on her plate every day and how she feeds her family.

Inside Kate Middleton’s diet

The Princess of Wales is known for enjoying a fruit and vegetable smoothie for breakfast, consisting of kale, spirulina, matcha, spinach, romaine, coriander leaves and blueberries.

She gravitates towards the healthy morning drink to set her up throughout the day. On other days, she’ll lean towards a bowl of oatmeal to give herself energy.

When it comes to the middle of the day, she opts for a meat-free dish when she can. Kate Middleton isn’t vegetarian but enjoys to dabble in the type of cuisine for her diet.

Chef Raghu Deora revealed she and William ate vegetable kebabs and lentil curries while they were on their royal tour of India.

He said: “It is all vegetarian because I was told that was what they preferred.”

The pair also love Japanese cuisine, telling chef Akira at Japan House in London: “My wife and I love sushi. We might have to come down here for lunch when no one else is in.”

Other staples in Kate Middleton’s diet include watermelon salads, ceviche, gazpacho and tabbolueh, according to reports.

For the last meal of the day, she likes to mix it up. The royal enjoys roast dinners, pasta and curries. The princess is a lover of spicy food, and her husband William can’t keep up as he ‘struggles’ with spices.

During her pregnancy, there were reports she craved sliced pickles on toast – quite a delicacy!

Her preferred dessert is a British favourite

Now, when it comes to the sweet treat at the end of a meal, Kate Middleton likes to eat sticky toffee pudding.

Chef Rody Warot dished out this detail to People: “Kate is always discreet and has always complimented the dishes with great kindness… For dessert, her favourite is sticky toffee pudding. It’s moist and spongy.”

She also told a child during a visit to Stockwell Gardens Nursery and Pre-School in London that she loves papaya.

Princess enjoys cooking and baking

Royal author Katie Nicholl explained in 2012 that the Princess of Wales enjoys cooking for her husband, the future king.

She said: “In the evenings she indulges her hobby of cooking William’s favourite supper, roast chicken.”

The duo were spotted tucking into popcorn when they were on a royal tour of Canada and the USA in 2014. The pair attended a basketball game in New York and couldn’t resist the game-side treat!

The mum-of-three is a keen baker, and stays up until midnight to bake her children’s birthday cakes herself every single year. She made the revelation during the 2019 edition of Mary Berry’s A Berry Royal Christmas.

But her children also get involved, as Prince George, Louis and Princess Charlotte baked their mother Kate Middleton a sponge cake for Mother’s Day one year.

She has been known to make homemade jam since as early as 2011 or before, giving strawberry jam and plum preserves as Christmas presents in 2011.

Kate Middleton has passed down her love for olives to Princess Charlotte

In addition, Kate Middleton is said to be a fan of snacking on olives in her diet.

During a visit to Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2018, she told a patient: “I used to eat lots and lots of olives when I was little as well.”

According to the Daily Mail, the duchess’s daughter Princess Charlotte is also a lover of olives. Visiting students at Lavender Primary School in 2019, Kate said: “Charlotte loves olives.”

But that’s not all she’s passed down to her daughter, in 2019, during a visit to Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, Kate Middleton explained Princess Charlotte is “pretty good with heat” like her.

Kate Middleton also revealed that Prince George and Princess Charlotte like to cook with her.

Chief executive of the the Ivy Learning Trust Matthew Kleiner-Mann told the Mail: “She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her. They made cheesy pasta the other day.

“One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in, and they make salads and stuff. Food is important to her and she understands the links between mental health and physical exercise.”
