King Charles has been dealt a lot during his short reign so far, including the continuation of the royal rift between the Sussexes and the Waleses.

For some years, relations between the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been strained.

Prince Harry and Meghan quit royal duties in 2020 and moved to the United States. They went on to do a series of tell-all interviews and Harry released an explosive memoir Spare, which included allegations about his family.

Harry has met with his father Charles on a few occasions since. However, it’s reported that his relationship with his brother Prince William has broken down completely.

‘Most distressing aspect’ of King Charles’ reign amid family rift

In the latest issue of Woman magazine, a source claimed to royal author Duncan Larcombe: “The king sees the breakdown in relations between the Sussexes and the Prince and Princess of Wales as one of the most distressing aspects of his short reign.”

The king became monarch in September 2022 upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Royal Insider has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

It comes after Prince Harry revealed the heartbreaking words his father said about the rift between his two sons.

In his memoir Spare, Harry detailed a conversation he reportedly had with his father and brother after his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.

Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview

The funeral took place just weeks after Harry and Meghan’s explosive Oprah Winfrey interview. During the interview, they made a string of damning allegations about the royal family.

The couple alleged that there were “concerns and conversations” within the family about “how dark” their son Archie’s skin might be when he’s born.

Meghan also said she felt suicidal whilst pregnant with Archie. She claimed that her request to receive help became denied by senior palace officials. She claimed she was told “it wouldn’t be good for the institution”.

One of the most distressing aspects of his short reign.

Harry, meanwhile, described Charles and William as being “trapped within the system”.

At the time, a statement from Buckingham Palace said: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

King Charles’ ‘heartbreaking plea’ to William and Harry

Harry wrote in Spare: “I tried to explain my side of things. Every time I ventured a new explanation, started a new line of thought, one or both of them would cut me off.

“Willy in particular didn’t want to hear anything. After he’d shut me down several times, he and I began sniping, saying some of the same things we’d said for months – years. It got so heated that Pa raised his hands. ‘Enough!’
