Kate Middleton tells fans in Italy to call her by different name as she shows off language skills

The Princess of Wales, 44, arrived in Italy on May 13. It’s her first official foreign visit in more than three years and will be centred on early childhood development.
As the princess arrived in Italy, she was met with a warm welcome as people gathered to catch a glimpse of the future queen.
During a walkabout, the Princess of Wales also showed off her Italian skills as she shared sweet moments with well-wishers.

The Princess of Wales looked stunning in a blue suit as she arrived in the main square in Reggio Emilia.
She was welcomed by the city’s Mayor Marco Massari.
Hundreds of Italians gathered in the main square to welcome the princess. Princess Catherine was seen bending down to speak with school children and also showcased her Italian skills.
According to reports, Kate was heard saying “piacere” (pleasure) and “buongiorno” (good morning) as she shook hands with the well-wishers.

Kate also told locals to “call me Caterina”.

‘Her Italian was perfect’
Royal fans were stunned by the Princess of Wales’ skills. One person gushed on X: “I think it is Italian but I think it’s very basic Italian bless her. But at least she made effort.”
Another wrote: “I bet she’s been brushing up on her Italian ever since she knew she was visiting Italy.”
A third commented: “It sounds like Princess Catherine is speaking Italian, it’s nice of her to make the effort and it seems appreciated.”
Kate’s language skills were also praised by a school child who attended the walkabout.
According to HELLO!, the five-year-old girl said: “She asked my name in Italian. She spoke Italian very well.”
One teacher also said that meeting the princess was “emotional,” adding: “She asked them some simple questions but her Italian was perfect she spoke clearly.”

Security hurries after Princess of Wales in Italy
Elsewhere, during the walkabout, the Princess of Wales appeared to give her security a slight panic as she ran back to the crowds to collect flowers.
In a video shared to X, Kate was seen turning away from her car to hurry back to the people who had gathered.

She then collected a bouquet of flowers from one person as her security was seen quickly hurrying behind her.
One royal fan shared the moment on X, writing: “Princess Catherine nearly gave her security detail a heart attack by running back into the crowd to collect all the bouquets they wanted to give her!”
Another person said: “Catherine is such a beautiful person, inside and out. Effortlessly magnificent.”
