Moment King Charles 'looks to Queen Camilla for reassurance' during State Opening of Parliament

On Wednesday, the king and queen attended the annual State Opening of Parliament. The ceremony marks the formal start of the parliamentary year. In the king’s speech, Charles sets out the UK government’s agenda for the coming session.
Charles and Camilla arrived for the event at the Palace of Westminster, where the monarch gave his speech.
But according to a body language expert, King Charles appeared “very serious” and “intensely focused” as Camilla stepped in to reassurance him.

King Charles at the State Opening of Parliament
On Wednesday, King Charles arrived by carriage procession from Buckingham Palace.
He read a speech written by His Majesty’s Government, which sets out legislation for the year. Within the speech, the king set out the government’s aim to “support measures that maintain stability and control the cost of living” in the UK.
He said the government believes that “improved trading relations are vital for the United Kingdom’s economic security, for significantly raising economic growth, and for lowering prices for working people”.
According to body language expert Darren Stanton, Charles takes these elements of his duty “very seriously”.

He also detailed how Queen Camilla played a supportive role for the king at the ceremonial event.
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Darren said: “Camilla has a social smile, it is appropriate for the situation. Charles is looking very serious, he obviously takes these elements of his duty very seriously. He is very good at playing the role of the king.
“His expressions are very reverent and regal. His jaw is clenched and he has quite a sombre expression.

‘Camilla is really his rock’
“He is intensely focused. He didn’t stutter or mumble but you could see he was really focusing on doing that. His brows were furrowed, he had a tight jaw and his lips were suppressed which are all indicative of someone being very deliberate.”
You could see him looking to her for reassurance frequently as they entered parliament.
Darren added that the king’s posture was “very rigid”. He explained further: “This difference shows how much this event means to him. He has his different hats that he puts on.

“Queen Elizabeth left such a glorious legacy and he had a lot to live up to after his mother’s tremendous reign, so he works incredibly hard to perform at his best during these ceremonies.
Praising Queen Camilla, Darren said: “Camilla is really his rock, her more relaxed and light movements and expressions balance Charles’ intense focus. You could see him looking to her for reassurance frequently as they entered parliament.”
