Kate Middleton's five-word confession about meeting niece Princess Lilibet
It is widely believed that the Prince and Princess of Wales have never met Lilibet
Kate Middleton once admitted she was eager to meet Princess Lilibet, but that moment may still not have happened.
Princess Lilibet Diana turned four on June 4.
Lilibet, the daughter and youngest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was born in California in 2021. She has spent her early childhood in the United States, far from the royal palaces her father once called home.
With ties between the Sussexes and the royal family still strained, it’s widely believed that several senior royals, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, have never met her in person.

Has Kate Middleton met Princess Lilibet?
Despite being the aunt of the young princess, Kate gave a telling five-word confession just days after Lilibet’s birth. When asked by a journalist if she had FaceTimed with Lilibet, Kate said: “No, I haven’t. No.”
The admission came during a royal engagement in June 2021.
The Princess of Wales smiled politely and added: “I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her, because we haven’t yet… met her yet, so hopefully that will be soon.”
In 2022, Harry and Meghan returned to the UK for Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee. They brought their children, and it’s believed a birthday party took place for Lilibet. However, Prince William and Kate were reportedly in Cardiff for a royal engagement with their children on Lilibet’s birthday.
Now years later, a long-anticipated meeting has still never been publicly confirmed. Royal correspondent Danielle Stacey noted in HELLO! last year: “It has never been officially confirmed whether the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children have met Princess Lilibet.”
Lilibet was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. She now lives in Montecito with her parents and older brother Prince Archie, six.
Since Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals and moved to the US in 2020, the physical and emotional distance between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family has widened significantly.

Princess Lilibet celebrates birthday
Last year, Harry and Meghan celebrated Lilibet’s third birthday with an intimate party at their California home. According to royal author Tom Quinn, the event may have lacked royal attendees, but it was far from low-key.
“Rather than opt for a low-key celebration, Harry and Meghan spent the previous weekend enjoying a pre-birthday bash for their daughter Lillibet’s third birthday,” Tom told The Mirror. “Extravagantly expensive gifts were off the table. But the couple’s California mansion was teeming with celebrities, including Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom and their daughter Daisy.”
Despite sharing a neighbourhood with some of Hollywood’s elite, Meghan and Harry have kept their celebrations private.
Notably, no members of the royal family reportedly attended Lilibet’s birthday gathering last year.
I wish her all the very best. I can’t wait to meet her
This year, Lilibet’s fourth birthday is likely to be another quiet yet meaningful celebration in Montecito.
And with no confirmed plans for a visit, the question of whether Kate and her children will ever meet Lilibet remains open.
After losing his court case for security in the UK, Prince Harry argued that he can not bring his wife or children back to England.
“I can’t see a world in which I will be bringing my wife and children back to the UK,” Harry told the BBC last month. “They’re going to miss everything, I love my country. I miss the UK, I miss parts of the UK. It’s sad I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
As Prince William and Kate continue their royal duties in the UK, and Prince Harry builds a life in California, the physical and emotional distance between the two brothers has seemingly grown.
