Prince Harry is said to be making desperate efforts to reconcile with the royal family, but Prince William is not convinced by his latest gesture.

According to the Daily Mail, the Duke of Sussex recently offered to share his official engagement schedule with Buckingham Palace in a bid to avoid clashes with royal events and ease ongoing tensions with King Charles, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.

While Harry’s move has been seen by some as a positive gesture, not everyone is ready to embrace it.

Prince Harry ‘desperate’ for reconciliation

Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital: “Harry is now desperate. While this self-serving gesture is notable, it won’t do much to mitigate suspicion and caution on the royal side.”

She added that King Charles, still hurt by past public betrayals, remains “cautious and wary” of further leaks.

Meanwhile, Prince William reportedly views any attempts at reconciliation as a “grave mistake”.

“His senior royal courtiers are understood to be just as wary and immensely protective of the future monarch,” Hilary explained. “They only see [a reconciliation] as creating more bombshells, as well as instability.”

Harry’s decision to share his calendar comes after criticism that his public outings, including a recent visit to Angola in honour of Princess Diana, have overshadowed royal milestones, like Queen Camilla’s 78th birthday.

The plan also reportedly opens the door to discussing when Harry might meet with his father in person again.

The pair last saw each other in February 2024, shortly after the king’s cancer diagnosis was made public. The Daily Mail reported that Harry’s aides met privately with King Charles’ communications secretary in London on July 9 to facilitate ongoing dialogue.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams welcomed the move as “a gesture of goodwill”. “This is a practical move that will be appreciated,” he said. “It appears the Sussexes are getting some good advice.”

However, others remain skeptical, particularly Prince William and Princess Kate.

According to PEOPLE magazine, they were not informed of the meeting between Harry’s team and the palace, nor were they asked to send a representative.

A source told the Daily Mail: “They will be treating the talks with extreme caution. The fact that it ended up in the newspapers tells you all you need to know.”

Harry has made public pleas for reconciliation in the past. In a May interview with the BBC, he said: “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

But experts believe that regaining the royal family’s trust won’t come easy.

“If there is to be any proper reconciliation, the royal family has absolutely no need to move at anything other than a glacial pace,” Hilary said.

She added that Harry’s attempt to coordinate calendars isn’t enough.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and now live in Montecito, California, with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Since their exit, tensions have worsened, fueled by revealing interviews, a Netflix docuseries, and Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare.

For now, any reunion between the brothers appears distant. And while King Charles may still hold the door open, Prince William seems far from ready to walk through it.
