Bryony Gordon, a friend of Meghan Markle, has stepped in to defend the Duchess of Sussex amid the reported ongoing royal rift.

The journalist and campaigner, 45, met Meghan, 44, at a Royal Foundation event in 2018. The pair were both on the panel of Heads Together, a mental health initiative.

Bryony then went on to interview Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, about mental health on her Mad World podcast. She has also made several TV appearances, discussing her friendship with the Sussexes.

Bryony Gordon takes swipe at royals over Meghan

Now, in an article for the Daily Mail, Bryony has taken aim at the royal family. She even went so far as to call them “fools” over the alleged treatment of Meghan.

The journalist pointed out “double standards” between the royal family’s treatment of Meghan and that of Prince Andrew.

Somehow, Andrew got away with it for decades, while Meghan was branded ‘Duchess Difficult’

Queen Elizabeth II’s son has, of course, been embroiled in scandal in recent years over his association with late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew stepped back from duties in 2019 and later had his military titles and charitable patronages removed in 2022. It came as Andrew was facing a civil US lawsuit over sexual assault allegations, which he has always denied.

In February of 2022, Andrew and his accuser, Virginia Giuffre, settled the case out of court without it going to trial.

Meghan defended over ‘Duchess Difficult’ nickname

Nevertheless, Bryony has compared the public scrutiny of Andrew to the criticism Meghan has received.

“Somehow, Andrew got away with it for decades, while Meghan was branded ‘Duchess Difficult’ the moment she so much as asked the queen if she might be able to borrow a tiara for her wedding,” she said. “Why is it that people will tolerate all manner of misbehaviour from the likes of powerful men like Prince Andrew, but not a woman who, according to critics, has a habit of occasionally emailing her staff at 5am?”

Over the years, Meghan has faced allegations of bullying over her treatment of staff. She denied the claims at the time, with a spokesperson saying they were the “latest attack on her character”.

Among these claims was that Meghan would send staff emails as early as 5am. However, she reportedly let them know that they were not required to reply at that time.

What fools the royals were, for throwing away the marvellous opportunity they had with Meghan.

Following all the backlash, Bryony sweetly praised Meghan in her piece. She recalled the “big old bear hug” of their first meeting and the “texts about life” they continue to exchange.

“What fools the royals were, for throwing away the marvellous opportunity they had with Meghan, all while continuing to cover up for atrocious Andrew,” she concluded.

Elsewhere recently, Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, reportedly felt “devastated” after photos of their children leaked online.

Meghan, Harry, their son Archie, their daughter Lilibet, and even one of their dogs were reportedly papped as little Prince Archie enjoyed a surfing lesson.

Photos of the family pictured together at Santa Claus Beach quickly went viral online. After leaving the UK, the couple has fiercely protected their children from the public eye.
