'Reason' Donald Trump would have been 'disappointed' over Queen Camilla's tiara decision during US state visit
It was a break from traditionQueen Camilla didn’t wear a tiara as she attended a lavish dinner, hosted by US President Donald Trump, during her state visit to America.
On Monday, King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to the US for a four-day state visit.
As the couple spent time in Washington, D.C, they were treated to a state dinner by the president and US First Lady Melania Trump.
But for the occasion, Queen Camilla chose not to wear a tiara leaving many royal watchers surprised. Why didn’t Camilla wear a tiara for the occasion? One royal commentator has explained why…

‘Reason’ Queen Camilla didn’t wear tiara for state dinner with Donald Trump
Speaking on behalf of Slots Temple, former royal butler Grant Harrold: “I think this is just Queen Camilla’s modern take on things. Tiaras aren’t a thing in the States, they’re very much something of a bygone era – so I imagine Camilla just wanted to reflect this with her look for the historic dinner.
“She wore a tiara when the Trumps visited the UK last year. But that was on British soil so British traditions were followed. This trip is different as they are now the guests.
“If Camilla had worn a tiara, she would have been the only guest to do so, but during the UK State Banquet we also saw Kate, Anne and Sophie in them.”
‘Change in tradition’
Harrold said this is a “change in tradition from the late Queen Elizabeth II”. He explained of the late queen: “She always wore tiaras for State Banquets and formal occasions. She loved wearing them, so wore them whenever the opportunity was there. It was never really a discussion for her.

“When considering Camilla’s decision not to wear one, it’s also important to remember that her position is different to that of her late mother-in-law.
“While they both have the title Queen, Elizabeth was the Monarch while Camilla is married to the Monarch. So there is a big status difference.”

Trump ‘disappointed’ by Camilla’s tiara decision
Harrold said he believes President Trump may have felt “disappointed” over the queen’s decision.
This trip is different as they are now the guests.
He said: “Camilla’s office would have worked with the White House team, especially the First Lady’s office, ahead of the event to swap details of outfits. They would have wanted to avoid colour clashes.
“So the White House would have known ahead of time she wasn’t going to wear one. But I think Trump might have been a bit disappointed as he likes all the royal glitz and glamour.
“Him being the way he is, I imagine he might have asked her where it was. She’s great with this kind of stuff, so would have just made a joke out of it.”
