King Charles issued stark warning about 'serious mistake' amid fears over Buckingham Palace
The palace is a historic symbol of the British monarchyBuckingham Palace is the heart of the British royal family and King Charles has been warned about the future of the residence.
For decades, the palace has been the central part in many historic royal moments from weddings to coronations.
But there’s now fears about the future of Buckingham Palace and what it’ll be used for.

Is Buckingham Palace King Charles’ main residence?
It’s believed that Buckingham Palace isn’t King Charles and Queen Camilla’s main residence.
While it remains the official administrative headquarters of the monarchy, the king and queen primarily live at Clarence House in London.
Clarence House is a short five-minute drive from the palace.
In a new piece for the Daily Mail, royal commentator Richard Eden has claimed that a source believes Charles and Camilla will never live at the palace.
They reportedly said: “Buckingham Palace will be used for royal events. There will be investitures, receptions and banquets, but the king and queen won’t sleep there.”

Since ascending the throne in September 2022, King Charles has remained living at Clarence House with Queen Camilla.
Royal experts predict that Charles’ son Prince William will also decline living at Buckingham Palace. He currently lives with wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, and their three children in Windsor.
Charles’ mother Queen Elizabeth II lived at Buckingham Palace for some time during her reign. She and husband Prince Philip lived in the private apartments on the north side of the palace.

‘If people think it’s an office they won’t go there’
An old friend of Queen Camilla’s, Nicky Haslam, has spoken out against the royal couple’s decision not to live at the palace.
Speaking to Eden for his social diary column Eden Confidential in the Daily Mail, interior designer Nicky said: “Turning Buckingham Palace into an office is wrong. Period. William won’t use it either. It stops Buckingham Palace being the jewel in the crown. If people think it’s an office they won’t go there.”
For King Charles to abandon it at a time of peace would be a serious mistake.
Meanwhile, sharing his own concerns, Eden wrote: “This leaves me worried for the future of the monarchy. The king’s grandfather, George VI, and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, defied Adolf Hitler and remained at Buckingham Palace throughout the war, even during the nine occasions when German bombs fell on it.

“[Sir Winston] Churchill knew the symbolic power of the king being at the nation’s home. That is why the Government agreed to spend £369 million of taxpayers’ money on restoring the palace to its former glory. For King Charles to abandon it at a time of peace would be a serious mistake.”
