King Charles may have chosen to prioritise his health over his alleged rift with his son, Prince Harry.

Earlier this year, the Duke of Sussex, 40, expressed a desire to reconcile with his family, especially his father. Last year, King Charles, 76, was diagnosed with cancer and continues to undergo treatment.

Since Charles’ diagnosis, it’s believed he and his youngest son, Harry, have only met in person once. According to one royal commentator, there may be a reason behind this.

King Charles ‘took decision to focus on his health’ amid Prince Harry ‘rift’

Newsweek’s Chief Royal Correspondent, Jack Royston, appeared on The Sun‘s Royal Exclusive show recently.

Discussing whether it’s likely we could see Harry repairing his relationship with King Charles, Jack said: “I think there’s a chance we will, but I do think Charles is going to need to be slightly dragged into it.

“I think Charles got to a point after his diagnosis where I think he took a decision that he needed to protect his peace and that his younger son was causing him a significant amount of stress and anxiety in his life, and so he took a decision that he needed to focus on his health and getting back to the place that he needed to be, and that meant not exhaustingly spending all of his time running around after Harry.”

He added: “Harry is going to have to show Charles that having a relationship is not going to be exhausting and draining for him if Harry’s serious about wanting to repair that relationship.”

Royal Insider has contacted reps for Buckingham Palace for comment.

According to Harry, Charles is no longer speaking to him. He made the claim during his BBC interview in May.

Harry’s ‘rift’ with the royal family

It’s not just Charles that Harry reportedly doesn’t have contact with. According to reports, he’s no longer on speaking terms with his brother, Prince William.

Since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from royal duties in 2020, the couple has made a series of explosive allegations about their time within the royal family.

I think he took a decision that he needed to protect his peace.

In his tell-all memoir, Spare, Harry alleged that William physically attacked him during an altercation over Meghan in 2019.

It’s unclear if Prince William, 43, has forgiven Harry for his comments. However, some royal experts believe William may never reconcile with his younger brother.

Will Prince William ever forgive Harry?

It seems it may be a while before William forgives Harry. Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital: “Overall doubt still prevails in Prince William’s camp.

“He considers any reconciliation at all as a ‘grave mistake.’ His senior royal courtiers are understood to be just as wary and immensely protective of the future monarch.”
